전등사에서
세상 설명할 무엇이 있으랴
강설당 문을 닫고
하늘로 흐르는 계절을 본다.
가을볕이 반짝이며
사찰 마당으로 내리고
방안에 드러누운 책들도
게으른 오수에 빠져 있다.
댓돌마루에 비듬이 기대어
먼 곳을 바라보는 누렁이는
스치는 발자국에도 무심하다.
시선이 머무는 곳마다
부처의 미소가 지천인데
은행나무 가지 끝에 매달린
가을은 나직이 시간이 되어
스스로 익어가고 있구나.
강설당 문에
기대어 한숨 자고 나면
천 년은 흘러버릴 것 같아
서둘러 산문 나서는 길
늙은 자연이 따라나서고
산사는 침묵 속으로 사라진다.
What need is there to explain the world?
I close the doors of Gangseldang
and watch the seasons flow toward the sky.
Autumn sunlight glimmers
and falls upon the temple courtyard.
Books sprawled in the room
drift into a lazy afternoon nap.
On the stone porch, a golden mutt
leans on the railing, gazing afar,
indifferent even to passing footsteps.
Everywhere my eyes rest,
the Buddha’s smile abounds.
Autumn, dangling from the tip
of a ginkgo branch,
softly becomes time itself,
ripening on its own.
If I fall asleep leaning
against the door of Gangseldang,
it feels a thousand years might pass.
So I hasten to leave the temple gates.
Aging nature follows me quietly,
and the mountain temple vanishes into silence.
